Beat the Holiday Bloat

The Holiday’s are a time of celebration with family and friends – often accompanied by overeating and indulging in foods that may be new to us or we eat infrequently – like the fruit cake, the office pot luck, the venison jerky or anything with sugar.

This usually results in digestive discomforts like bloating, stomach pain, gas and constipation. This may be only temporary and occasional, or it might be a protracted discomfort which detracts from the Holiday festivities.

Assuming the causes of your bloating are not serious (which should be verified by your doctor), the reasons for this discomfort could include: insufficient stomach acid, insufficient digestive enzymes, food intolerances, food allergies, stress, poor gut motility, gut dysbiosis. Or it could be as simple as too high sugar intake – this is a common cause of bloating.

Here are some of the main causes of bloating:

Cause of Bloating #1: Low Stomach Acid
The symptoms of insufficient stomach acid include feeling full after a small intake of food, heartburn and burping. Stomach acid is responsible for stimulating the release of certain digestive enzymes. Without these enzymes, foods such as meat, fish and eggs may be more difficult to digest. Partially digested proteins make their way to the bowel where, because they have not gone through the complete process, they putrefy, causing irritation and inflammation. This in turn causes abdominal pain and bloating.

Cause of Bloating #2: Insufficient Digestive Enzymes
Lower than normal levels of digestive enzymes can be caused by many factors – antibiotics, medications, stress, food intolerances, infections, poor dietary choices, excessive alcohol consumption. When digestive enzymes are in low levels, undigested fats, carbohydrates and proteins transit to the bowel, where once again they begin to ferment, causing irritation and inflammation – and bloating.

In addition, some foods can be more difficult for the intestinal organs to digest. Particular vegetables, especially when eaten raw, can cause gas and bloating. Cauliflower and broccoli are two examples – however, everyone is unique and you may find there are certain foods which are more likely to cause bloating and stomach pain. Lactose (milk sugar) and fructose (fruit sugar) can cause bloating in some individuals. Again, if your body is lacking in digestive enzymes, you may find these particular foods more troublesome – but you may be able to eat them without any problems, once enzyme activity is restored.

Cause of Bloating #3: Food Intolerances
Unlike food allergies, which have an almost immediate effect, food intolerances are slower to appear – usually over a 48 hour period. It is not uncommon to develop a food intolerance to your favorite foods. Food intolerances can be caused by many of the usual suspects – insufficient stomach acid, insufficient digestive enzymes, stress, hormones, medications, etc.

Some of the most common food intolerances include gluten, wheat, yeast, dairy foods, shellfish, eggs, peanuts and other nuts, sesame seeds, soya and chocolate

Bloating is a common symptom of food intolerances – sometimes it may be the only symptom, or it may be accompanied by diarrhea or loose bowel motions, or the opposite – constipation.

Cause of Bloating #4: Dysbiosis
This terms means a lack of digestive harmony. Basically, it’s when your intestinal tract has too much of the bad bacteria, not enough of the good. This can be caused by antibiotics, steroids, oral contraceptives, NSAIDS, a variety of other medications, poor food choices, exposure to chemicals, high levels of stress, etc. These bad bacteria produce toxins, the symptoms of which which can be a primary cause of bloating and stomach pain.

Cause of Bloating #5: Poor Gut Motility
Poor intestinal muscle function can be caused by a calcium-magnesium imbalance, insufficient dietary soluble fiber, dehydration. When this happens, good bacteria decline and, as mentioned above, the toxins are produced in vast quantities. Cells of the colon can be damaged, increasing the risk of colon cancer. Symptoms include bloating, pain, constipation, headaches and a coated tongue.

Regardless of the cause of bloating, it is down-right uncomfortable and dampens the Holiday Spirit. To keep this under control we recommend a colon cleansing during the Holiday’s to “Beat the Bloat”. Ultimate Digestive Health has everything you need to help you feel great. It concludes:

I have had numerous colonoscopy and gastoscropy’s and to no avail. I have two stomach ulcers and that’s it. However, I look 9 months pregnant and it is so bad at times that I just hide in my room. I get stopped in shopping centres, at work by customers and even by teachers and other parents at my teenagers school. This is demorilizing and depressing and has driven me to near suicide. I am not an overweight person and at the age of 42, I am totally at my wit’s end. I would love to try this product, but as I am in South Africa and am not sure what this will cost in Rands, or if I can afford it, how can I get hold of something like this. Is there a distributor of this product in South Africa and how can I get into contact with someone that can help me with this major problem in my life?

    Hello:

I just recently ordered this product and am so hoping that this will be the beginning of a journey toward reducing my bloating, constipation, and what must be an abundance of parasites in my intenstines. I have been seeing a GI for 2 – 3 years now after suffering abdominal and intestinal problems for years. I currently tak a mesalamine tablets, fiber supplements or powder. Though I often have one bowel movement daily, I continue to be bloated and have ocassional stomach upset. I don’t think I can lose with a cleansing component at this point and am so glad that I found this regiment.

Hope to receive my order before Thanksgiving!

I ordered the Ultimate Digestive Health and have been taking it for 3 days. I still feel a bit bloated and have miniumum bowel movements. I drink more water then recommended and eat only about one meal a day due to feeling so full and bloated. I have not seen anything about what to eat or not to eat during the cleanse. I usual eat veggies, chicken and dairy. I also drink a whey protien drink during the afternoon after my workout. Are there certain foods I should eat while doing the cleanse? I have never been regular with bowel movements and also wonder if the product is just takes time to really work its magic.

      • Ultimate Lifespan says:

        Hi Carrie,

Thank you for writing in and for sharing your concerns with us! Cramping and bloating are common signs that your body is still getting used to the Ultimate Digestive Health Cleanse. The discomfort during the initial phase is often a sign that there is waste buildup and the cleanse is working hard to dislodge them from our body. You may want to increase your water intake to help bowel movement which will ease the bloated feeling. A warm cup of tea after a heavy meal will also decrease your likelihood to develop bloating and gas. To help relieve some of your discomfort, you can decrease your fiber intake as well as cut back on your tea’s steeping time.

Hope this helps! Have a healthy day!

        Hi Carrie,

I was wondering whether you persevere with the program and got the results you wanted? I am currently 5 days in and have had even less bowel movements than I normally have done, am extremely bloated and have a tender bowel when I press on it. Hoping you had some success, otherwise I don’t see much point continuing…

        • Ultimate Lifespan says:

          Hi Adriana,

Thank you for writing in and for sharing your thoughts with us! The first few days on the cleanse does take some getting used to. If you were not previously used to a significant amount of fibers in your system, bloating is likely to happen. To help, we suggest that you increase your water intake (at least 64 ounces of water per day) as well as the steeping time for the tea. You may also want to decrease your fiber intake to give your stomach time to adjust to the influx of dietary fibers. Hope this helps! Have a healthy day!

  • Susan says:

I ordered your cleanse product a while ago but haven’t tried it yet…plan to next week…..but before I start I wanted to know what I should be eating while taking this? Or what I should stay away from? Please respond ASAP so I start out right.

    • Ultimate Lifespan says:

      Hi Susan,

Thank you for writing in and for sharing your concerns! As Ultimate Digestive Health is a detoxifying regimen, we recommend that you steer clear of heavily processed foods as much as you can. Food items such as canned, cured or pickled should be avoided as they laced heavily with salts and preservatives as well as other chemicals which can impede your progress heavily. Refined sugar, sodas, pastas and white bread are also sugar or carbohydrate rich food items and tend to collect inside and slow down your digestive system.

However, we do recommend organic vegetables and fruits as these are high in fiber and rich in nutrients. A generous helping of salad greens and a couple of servings of fruits can make all the difference in ensuring you do not get backed up or constipated. Also, we cannot emphasize the importance of water enough. You need at least 64oz. of water daily. Being adequately hydrated means your metabolism stays active and you also avoid other common gastric discomforts such as bloating and constipation.

Hope this helps and We wish you success on your cleansing journey! Have a healthy day!

On day 7 and have been belching stomach acid the past couple of days. Even up into my nose yesterday! Very gross! This is unusual for me. I am having regular bowel movements and drinking almost a gallon of water per day. (I am overweight) is this something common? Seems like it started when I doubled the sntiparasite pills.

    • Ultimate Lifespan says:

      Hi Melanie,

Thank you for writing in and for sharing your concerns with us! We are terribly sorry that you have not been feeling some discomfort and are not feeling well. We formulated Ultimate Digestive Health to be safe, non-addictive, with few mild temporary side effects. We are not aware of any potential drug or supplement interactions. Stomach belching of stomach acids or having an acid reflux is not a common side effect of our product however, we do strongly advise you to stop taking the Anti-parasite support capsules if you feel they are causing the problem. The reason being, while we are confident that our products are safe for every day use and are well tolerated, we have no sure way of knowing how each individual will react to the cleanse. Also, if your symptoms do persist or worsen, we do suggest that you speak with your personal doctor in order to seek relief and prevent the same from happening in the future. We do hope you start feeling better soon! Make it a healthy day!

  • I have also experienced unusual constipation and bloating – so increased my water intake to nine large glasses of pure water daily , doubled on the cleansing tea ie one cup after lunch.. still absolutely no results after five days I am now starting to panic ! will go another three days
    Please help ……….,

    • Ultimate Lifespan says:

      Hi Chris,

Thank you for writing in and for sharing your concerns with us! We are deeply sorry that you have not been feeling well. Increasing your tea’s steep time as well as taking in more water are all great solutions. We would like to recommend that you also cut back on the amount of fiber in your drink. If you feel you have problems with bloating or gas, it may be because you have increased the amount of fiber in your daily food consumption. By decreasing the amount o fiber in your morning drink, your body can quickly process your food and ease your discomfort.

That said, we want you to know that Ultimate Digestive Health Colon Cleanse is a gentle but effective cleanse and works by ridding your body of toxic waste. However, should your symptoms persist or continue to worsen, please see your personal doctor at the soonest time possible. Hope this helps! Have a healthy day!
